Now in its 30th year, the Master Design Awards is the premier design award program for residential remodelers. What distinguishes this program from others is the strict peer-to-peer nature of the award. Only active remodelers and designers are invited to review the entries.
This year's judging took place June 13-14 at the Standard Club, in downtown Chicago. Judges were hand-picked and brought in from all over the United States to give a wide variety of views and opinions on the projects. Our 2008 judging panel consisted of QR design columnist Michael Menn, AIA, CGR, CAPS, of Design Construction Concepts, Northbrook, Ill.; Joe Cracco, Modern Yankee Builders, Cumberland, R.I.; John Davies, CGBP, ASID, Marrokal Construction Co., Lakeside, Calif.; Ken P. Skowronski, CR, KS Remodelers, Inc., Franklin, Wis.; and Doug Walter, AIA, CGR, CAPS, Doug Walter Architects, Denver, Colo.
Over the next 21 pages of Master Design Awards, the Gold winners are showcased along with the companies that won Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention awards. Also, in partnership with Chrysalis, recipients of both Chrysalis and Master Design Awards for the same project are recognized with a JANUS award.
This year the Master Design Awards produced 23 Gold award winners, 22 Silver award winners, 21 Bronze award winners and 13 honorable mention awards. Among all of these winners, the judges then selected a Best Project above $200,000 and Best Project below $200,000. This year, 12 winning projects were team entries.
