Like many remodeling projects, it starts with one room and then all of a sudden, it turns into an entire whole-house renovation. Such is the case in Austin, Texas when CG+S Design-Build began a sunroom addition and minor kitchen renovation, which then turned into a complete revamp of the entire home.

The scope of the project then developed to include a master suite renovation and expansion.

The owners of this home wanted the interiors to reflect their love of the outdoors by using natural stone and wood for the finishes. They also wanted to open up the home to the back yard by using large windows on the exterior wall. Inevitably, there were budgetary constraints — the homeowners put high value on quality design and materials, but were operating within a limited budget.

CG+S’s design plan included opening up the area between the new sunroom, kitchen and living room by removing part of the existing wall, the structural supports and an existing doorway. To enhance the outdoor feel of the new sunroom, the exisitng brick walls of the home’s exterior became the interior walls of the newly enclosed space.

With the structural supports and doorway headers removed, large glulam beams were installed to support the roof structure.
