Cary, N.C. -- January 25, 2010 -- Ply Gem Windows, a leading manufacturer of window and door products for the residential new construction and replacement market, was selected by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to supply windows and doors for a Season 7 home makeover in Buffalo, New York. The makeover reveal took place in November 2009 and aired on ABC on Sunday, January 24, 2010.

The new home, built by David Homes, is for Delores Powell, a Jamaican immigrant and community activist. To escape an abusive relationship, Powell moved herself and four children to a home in Buffalo, which despite endless work and repairs, is barely livable.

“At Ply Gem, we value the opportunity to give back to local communities and have donated top-quality energy-efficient windows to help the Powell family live more comfortably,” said Chris Pickering, vice president, marketing, Ply Gem windows. “We are honored to be a part of rebuilding the foundation of an American dream for such a strong mother and community activist.”

The Ply Gem Windows donated for the Buffalo Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project are vinyl new construction windows from the Ply Gem Windows MW Pro Series. All windows donated meet ENERGY STAR® guidelines and are made with Low-E glass to help reduce heating and cooling bills and improve overall comfort in the home. Additionally, all Ply Gem Windows Pro Series products have been Green Approved by the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Research Center National Green Building Certification. These products comply with specific green practice criteria in the National Green Building Standard™, including but not limited to, no additional on-site finish, ENERGY STAR ratings and certified U-factor (rate of heat loss) and SGHC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient). Green Approved products can be used by builders to earn points toward National Green Building Certification to the Standard.

This home is the first in New York State to receive NAHB Research Center Emerald-level status under the National Green Building Certification. This is the highest-level certification a home can achieve through the National Green Building Standard rating system.
